Aidōs features new and seasoned work by Chicago based painter Sofia Macht as well as a special collaboration with ceramicist Emily Sher. Macht’s tactile paintings and soft sculptures capture the performative gestures, shared narratives, and support structures of intimacy. Described by Anne Carson, aidōs is the acknowledgment of a shared boundary protected by the mutual shyness radiating between lover and beloved. This exhibition is a letter in earnest to the palpable affinity trapped in a shared side-eyed gaze between close friends or lovers.
Curated by Ashley Janke.
