Code Is Not Neutral: CQDELAB Coding Workshop + Reading Group

Workshops: November 15 & 22 (1-4pm Central)

Join alejandro t. acierto an KT Duffy of CQDELAB for a pair of workshops around coding practices, algorithmic oppression, and calls for justice through creative coding. Each session will convene with a discussion of readings and videos focused on the intersection of code practices and social injustice. Coding workshops (p5.js and css) will follow the discussion. Participants may attend one or both.

These workshops will lead to the creation of text based interactive works as a part of CQDE”s installation during their December Residency at ADDS DONNA. Workshop participants are welcome to submit works inspired by the readings and workshop by Nov 30th for inclusion in our installation.

Sunday, November 15th: 1 – 4pm

workshop: 3d shapes, textures, and animation with p5.js

reading/media: “A New Jim Code?” a conversation between Ruha Benjamin and Jasmine McNealy on race, carceral technoscience, and laboratory imagination in everyday life

Sunday, November 22nd: 1 – 4pm

workshop: type animators with CSS

reading/media: TBD
